Magnesium is an important mineral abundant in most foods however studies have shown that because of our lifestyles and food treatment, many are low in this essential mineral. It has a role in controlling the immune response and appears to have a role in controlling heart muscle function. Often magnesium deficiencies are associated with poor choice nutrition which have high salt loading and as a result potassium levels may also be deficient.

Potassium is one of the most common minerals in the body and is used to maintain cellular function. When the diet contains a lot of salt (sodium), the body needs to use potassium to manage this sodium excess. A deficiency in potassium may lead to heart rhythm and heart muscle issues.
